I started the day by driving up Rich Cove Rd. to Ghost
Town, arriving at about 9am, and walked down the street until I
found someone to tell them I was an extra. He pointed me to
wardrobe, where they outfitted me with my costume, and then to
makeup, where they put some powder on me, and told me to go to Craft
Services. That's where the snacks are. I got a cup of coffee, and
waited. And waited. And waited. While I waited,
I watched them film some exterior scenes outside the Silver
Dollar Saloon. Finally, about 11:30am they called the extras to the
saloon where they began filming inside. My role was to sit at a
table and play poker with another extra while they filmed a couple
of scenes. My back was to the camera, so my face won't be
seen...dang! But it was fun anyway.
Lunch break at about 1pm, where the whole cast and crew went to one
of the former large snack buildings of Ghost Town that had been
turned into a cafeteria. We had stir fried beef or chicken, salad,
sweet tea, and cookies. Back to the Saloon, where one more scene was
filmed which I don't even think I was in at all, but they wanted us
"acting" to set the mood...I guess. They kept using a smoke machine
to smoke up the inside of the saloon for atmosphere, and my nose
still burns slightly.
Each scene, both morning and afternoon, had about 5-6 takes.
Finally, the extras were released at about 4pm.
During some of the waiting time, I was one of the interviewees for
the "behind the scenes" video they were doing today, so MAYBE I'll
be in that.
Rance Howard, Ron's father was one of the actors I recognized along
with Bill McKinney, who has also been in a lot of movies, including
Deliverance and City Slickers 2.
Overall, it was a fun day, but cold.
It was my third time as an extra. I was filmed in the AWFUL movie:
Second Thoughts with Luci Arnez and Ken Howard, in which my part was
cut, and also in an episode of Law and Order, in which I showed up
real well. I don't think I'll even be noticed in Ghost Town...0h
well.
